restaurant-problemsIf you are planning to open a restaurant then you should know something about your employees. There’s a good chance that some of them might have a drug problem. That’s because restaurants have a higher percentage of drug-addicted employees than most other normal jobs do.

There are a few reasons that this is the case. First of all, restaurants often pay at least some of their employees in cash. People with drug problems need cash to pay for their drugs so they like jobs that pay directly in cash. Secondly, restaurants offer later starting hours than office jobs. People with drug habits often sleep in so they don’t want to have to go to an office at 9 in the morning. And finally, there is a high turnover rate at restaurants which means that these jobs are often available when others aren’t.

If you own a restaurant, you should know where to get help for your employees if they need it. You should give them brochures for the local rehab center. I know of one restaurant that worked directly with a Florida drug treatment center to refer employees there whenever they wanted help. Of course, you can’t make your employees sober up but you can at least point them in the right direction.
