When my girlfriend wanted to see where I worked, I thought, why not? I figured she’d be there for a few minutes, get bored, and then leave. Boy, was I wrong! For some reason she wanted to know all she could about the multi spindle machines I was in charge of running on a day to day basis. When I tried my best to explain it to her, she got impatient, wanting a hands on demonstration. Since the machines were all automated and run by computers, it was kind of hard to give her a demonstration without shutting production down.

We had a couple of used screw machines that were no longer in use, so I took her into the back room and explained to her how they worked. She nodded and asked a few questions, really trying to get a feel for the machines. I then took her into the main control room where the multi spindle lathes were all operated using a computer system. This made for faster and more efficient use of the machines.

My girlfriend stayed at the plant for about three hours and then took me out for lunch. She said she got a kick out of not only seeing the machines, but also seeing me at work.
