I went to a party the other night to celebrate a friend’s birthday. As usually happens at such gatherings, I met some interesting people. One of the guests from out of town told me that he works at a Tampa interactive marketing agency. I started to mumble some generic response (like “cool”) but then I realized that I was curious. What does one do at an interactive marketing agency?

I learned that this is basically a job that requires him to do a variety of different website development work and online marketing work. His area of expertise is the online marketing part. Someone else in the company handles the web design and then hands it over to him to help market the site.

It sounds like a pretty interesting job. Mostly I think it interests me because it’s such a new job. I mean, this isn’t a job that existed fifty years ago. It probably didn’t even exist twenty years ago. And even ten years ago this type of work was probably quite different from what it is today. That means that this guy that I met is doing work that is going to set the pace for everyone who does this job after him. What a cool thought!
