I kind of accidentally fell into the whole world of blogging and Internet marketing. I was working at a company doing general office support work. The company realized that it needed to get more advanced with its website. I had some basic web proficiency so I was the one asked to work on this. Most of what I learned was learned through trial and error.
For example, at one point I was asked to work on doing a pay per click campaign for a Tampa business. I did some online reading and research about what this meant. I then signed us up to serve as affiliates for several businesses and started promoting their products through widgets on our blog.
Well, I quickly learned that this had nothing to do with Tampa PPC work. Instead, I was doing affiliate marketing. It had sounded the same online to me when I was doing my reading. In fact, it’s similar. PPC is when you place an ad on your site and then get paid if it gets clicked on. Affiliate marketing also means you place an ad on your site but you only get paid if the person who clicks on the ad purchases something.
It took awhile for me to learn these differences but eventually I got pretty good at navigating web marketing for our company. What I didn’t realize until I’d already stopped working there is that they should have been paying me a lot more for Internet marketing than they were paying me as a general office admin worker!
