Webserver hosting can be a many headed beast if you allow it to become so. When you begin to look for a new hosting provider there are certain things you’ll want to keep in mind. First and foremost you’ll need to know whether or not your staff has the abilities to do certain tasks related to server management and maintenance.
If you do have the talent in your ranks, then you will get the most bang for your hosting budget by going with dedicated server hosting. The really cool thing about a dedicated server is the fact that the physical box is actually bought and paid for by the hosting company.
Why is that good? If something happens to the hardware, you are not responsible for making repairs or paying to have components replaced. While most hardware on the market today is pretty solid, stuff does break. Hard drives are notorious for spinning down and not coming back to life. If this happens, the company that hosts your dedicated servers are obligated to get a new drive in there.
Now make sure you opt for a regular back up plan, because you’ll not be too happy if they replace the broken hard drive but have no data to put on the new discs!
